The Zoning Board granted Robert Roberge (30 Merrimack Street) a variance on Aug. 11 to construct a 30-by-35 three-car garage that increases accessory-area coverage to about 78% of the primary structure’s footprint.
Roberge said the garage foundation has been in place for years and submitted multiple letters of neighbor support. The chair recused himself from the case and the board agreed to appoint a pro tem chair for that hearing. Several board members said the pattern of similar garages accessed from Artillery Lane and the lot configuration made the proposal consistent with neighborhood character; letters from Heron Rodicus, Donna Gosselin and others were entered into the record.
After brief discussion the board moved and approved the variance by voice vote. The board noted the 30-day appeal window and that the applicant may proceed with permits.
