The Nashua Zoning Board on Aug. 11 granted a variance to the Kumar Family Revocable Living Trust to widen a portion of the driveway at 12 Annabelle Court to about 29 feet, exceeding the 24-foot maximum in the land-use code.
Applicant Amit Kumar told the board he and his family need the additional width to park a third vehicle near the garage and to clear snow safely given a steep driveway slope. He also said the work will not alter the curb cut or street access and that the project includes a professionally engineered retaining wall and drainage. Kumar provided a neighbor letter of support from 14 Annabelle Court.
Board members said the site’s slope, short setback, and the agreement of the affected neighbor made this a minimal and reasonable request. After deliberation the board voted to grant the variance; members noted the decision was narrowly tailored to the upper portion of the driveway and did not alter the driveway entrance to the street.
The board’s approval allows the family to proceed with building permits and the construction of the retaining wall and drainage infrastructure described in testimony.
