Chief Christopher Habekost told the committee the department requested an article to purchase 10 new patrol rifles at an estimated total cost of $45,000 to replace weapons reaching the end of a 10–12 year service life. The department said officers are required to practice at least twice a year and fire a minimum of 50 rounds per practice; the department typically expends about 150 rounds per session.
Committee members also heard that patrol vehicle costs have risen sharply — quoted at roughly $58,000 in 2023 and approximately $83,000 in the FY27 budget. The FinCom discussed options for funding vehicle purchases, including budgeting as an annual expense versus shifting purchases to Free Cash in years with larger reserves.
