Kure Beach P&Z unanimously recommends text amendments to zoning code Chapters 13 and 14

The Kure Beach Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously April 1 to recommend that Town Council adopt proposed text amendments to Kure Beach Code (KBC) Chapters 13 and 14. Member Brittany Evans made both motions to recommend adoption; Chair Joe Barlok seconded each motion and the commission approved them without opposition.
Chair Joe Barlok reviewed the packet amendments in detail, citing a wording change on page 25 (Item F) to replace "corporate limits" with "jurisdictional limits," an addition on page 42 that defines service animals, and routing appeals to the Board of Adjustment on page 76. On the service-animal definition Barlok read: "As used in this Article, Service Animals shall mean an animal that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. The work performed must be directly related to the person's disability, such as guiding". Building Inspector Bethany White told the commission she will research the effective date language under "new construction" before the item goes to council. The motions carry recommended adoption to the Town Council as the next step.
