The consultant told the board that respondents are anonymous but the substance of written comments "are a public record" under "our Freedom of Information laws in North Carolina," and said the consultant and staff will redact any confidential personnel or student information under FERPA before posting materials.
He said full, unredacted PDFs of comments are provided to the board for internal review but that redactions will be made so the board can respond to public-records requests without disclosing protected information. The consultant also said he would copy board staff on follow-up communications to assist with any records requests.
