Commissioners note road director retirement, SAAB timeline and community-service changes

Commissioner Frederick told colleagues that Crawford County Road Commission Director Don Babcock announced his retirement and that the commission will begin advertising for a new director. Frederick also said the North Down River Road bridge bid was accepted and that the local road-projects plan is being revised.
Commissioner Lewis said the library has an interim director and is advertising for a permanent director. He reported that SAAB expects to occupy an administrative building in April and begin manufacturing in August. Chairperson Laurie Jamison said the Commission on Aging (COA) has expanded programming and that special-dinner attendance averaged about 200 per month, a record; she also noted Community Mediation Services and NEMCOG are seeing reductions in grant funding and plan to increase local fundraising.
