Ballston Spa’s Village Board voted to approve a contract with Slick Fiber to install equipment at the John Street water tower to support telemetry and to extend Wi‑Fi coverage to Kelly Park. The motion, approved by voice vote, authorizes the mayor to execute the agreement and sets one‑time fees and a monthly service charge.
The chair said the equipment will allow two‑way communications with the water tower “so that, if there’s issues, we can get alarms back, etcetera,” describing telemetry as the primary purpose for the site installation. The motion text included a $200 burial drop fee, a $300 one‑time wireless access‑point fee and a monthly charge of $84.95. The contract also identified 30 John Street as a location for tower communications and noted the installation’s ancillary benefit of extending public Wi‑Fi to the Kelly Park pavilion and pool.
Supporters said the monopole and associated equipment should reduce recurring disruptions when tower maintenance occurs. The board approved the contract without recorded opposition and authorized the mayor to sign the paperwork to complete the installation.
