Staff seeks consultant input on zoning rewrite; hourly estimates provided

Planner Jenny updated the commission on efforts to hire consultants to review and advise on the county's draft zoning regulations. She said she had contacted 11 firms, received some responses and expected formal cost estimates to arrive in August or September.
"A couple others just requested that I send them [the draft], which I did," Jenny said. "Hourly rates for services are 85 for my time as principal planner, and associate planner time is billed at 75 an hour." Jenny said some counties she contacted recommended particular firms and that one county reported being unhappy with its vendor, so she pursued multiple references. Members asked whether consultants would rewrite the draft or only provide suggestions; Jenny said vendors would generally offer suggested edits rather than a full rewrite, and that printed red-line drafts (23 pages) would be available for the commission to review before the next meeting.
Commissioners also noted potential outreach from data-center operators and discussed whether utilities, generators and noise should be addressed in the draft; Jenny said no data-center companies had contacted the county directly as of the meeting.
