Sun Valley council sets regular meeting times: 4 p.m. start, 9 p.m. end; exceptions allowed for executive session

After discussion about agenda development, packet timing and meeting efficiency, Council President Bob Youngman moved to amend the monthly meeting protocol so regular meetings begin at 4:00 p.m. and end by 9:00 p.m.; Council Member Michelle Griffith seconded. The council approved the motion unanimously and clarified that any agenda subject under discussion at 9:00 p.m. may be allowed to finish, and executive sessions may be held after 9:00 p.m. when necessary.
Council members emphasized the need for members to self-regulate discussion time, for the mayor to enforce meeting rules, and for packets to be available earlier in the week. Resident Kevin Laird commented that special meetings could be used to address focused issues (he cited Juniper Road as an example). Mayor Dewayne Briscoe and council members agreed staff should work to make meetings more efficient while preserving substantive debate when required.
