Business owner files formal complaints alleging procedural violations by Selma officials

Zachary Bridal, a Selma business owner, used the council's public‑comment period to say he is "formally filing complaints against the town manager, the chair of the appearance committee, the appearance committee as a whole, the town clerk, the town planner, and the mayor." He urged the council to investigate what he described as a concealed after‑the‑fact approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) and called for restored transparency in administrative processes.
Bridal told the council he raised the COA concern with staff in June and later found the approval had been brought to council after work was already finished. "Misquoting laws to residents and shutting down accountability in a public setting is unacceptable," he said. He also disputed a mayoral statement about an ordinance and said when he offered to play a recording he was told to sit down. Bridal asked the council to acknowledge the complaints and to investigate whether COA procedures in the historic district were bypassed.
