City Manager Hitt reported results of a police department salary survey during the March 24 called meeting, telling the council that patrol pay is below the average for similarly sized cities.
Hitt said, "Currently officers are on duty from 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with no overtime unless emergency," and recommended adding one patrol officer in the budget so the department could provide 24/7 coverage. Council directed staff to return at the next meeting with a proposed budget amendment and new patrol pay rates for further consideration.
