Historical Society seeks $38,500 for basement repairs, proposes three-way funding with Wahpeton

Representatives of the Richland County Historical Society told the Board the organization needs approximately $38,500 to repair basement damage caused by a sump pump failure and has also obtained estimates for LED lighting.
"Dahlman reported that the estimate for work needed after sump pump failure came in at $38,500," the record states. Dahlman and Donovan Buck said the Society's primary objective is to secure assistance for the basement repairs and planned to approach the City of Wahpeton with a proposal for a three-way cost split among the Historical Society, the County and the City. State's Attorney Kummer advised that if the county were to provide funds to a non-profit the county would need to rely on the Home Rule Charter, and Fossum said she would meet with Darcie Huwe regarding the proposal.
No county funding decision was made at the meeting; staff follow-up with the City of Wahpeton and legal review were indicated as next steps.
