Resident presents 276-signature petition, urges county action after DEQ finalizes permit for Riverview Dairy

Erik Olson told the Richland County Board on March 18 that citizens in Abercrombie Township and surrounding areas oppose a proposed Riverview Dairy and that a petition had been submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality.
"A petition was submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality, signed by 276 local citizens, along with documentation and research supporting their concerns," Olson said. He told commissioners the community sought an extension of the public comment period; because the DEQ granted a two-week extension, Olson said the agency declined to hold a public hearing. Commissioners suggested Olson contact the State Water Commissioner for additional information, and Commissioner Pery Miller said he would reach out to District 25 representatives to check the project's status.
Olson also told the Board the DEQ permit for Riverview had been finalized though Riverview is still working on other water sources. The Board did not take formal action on the matter at the meeting; county officials advised residents to pursue state channels for hearings and permit questions.
