Subcommittee Orders Due Diligence on Three Potential DPW Sites; Manager Prefers Coordinated Land Purchase

Committee members and staff identified three parcels under consideration for a consolidated Public Works campus: sites on North Main/Primrose Drive, Lane Road and Parade Road. Staff flagged several outstanding technical questions: groundwater flow, soil testing and access to public water and sewer.
City Manager Kirk Beattie said he will contact property owners for price information but expressed a preference to buy a parcel only if project funding is in place, to avoid the city owning land if the project does not move forward. Public Works Director Nate Guerette said he will consult Water Superintendent Crawford on the costs to extend water and sewer to any selected parcel and will ask the engineering team for a second-phase study that includes topographical mapping and wetland analysis to determine whether some wetland areas could be filled.
The subcommittee did not take a final site selection or funding vote at the May 6 meeting; it identified due-diligence tasks and next steps to inform future decisions.
