Nate Guerette, the City of Laconia Public Works Director, told the Land & Buildings Subcommittee that one of the Department of Public Works garage bays sank 14 inches, a failure he learned of on his second day as director. He said the building had experienced a similar sinking about a year earlier and that engineers had identified unstable soil beneath the structure.
Guerette said the soil instability prompted a study and redesign that began in January 2025. The structural issues are the principal reason the city is considering consolidation and new construction of Public Works facilities rather than repairing the existing building in place.
