Commissioners authorized a five-year renewal of the county solid-waste contract and adopted higher disposal fees at the May 18 meeting, after the Solid Waste Committee reported a roughly 38% increase in contract costs.
Commissioner Randy Wilson presented Resolution 051826048 and explained the need to cover rising costs for hauling and disposal. The resolution increases the in-county disposal fee from $60 to $85 per ton and raises the out-of-county fee from $75 to $100 per ton; brush and power fees also increased. The chair said the county must act to avoid unsustainable monthly costs; commissioners approved the measure by voice vote (recorded as 13–0).
Commission discussion included concerns that higher out-of-county fees might attract out-of-county waste to local convenience centers and the practical need to remain competitive with neighboring counties. The resolution directs the mayor and county staff to implement the new fee schedule.
