The Mexia ISD Board of Trustees approved a Level III grievance at its called hearing on June 11, 2026, voting 4-3 to accept the grievance with a stipulation that the employee be limited to performing plumber duties.
The board met in two separate executive sessions under the Texas Open Meetings Act. After the first executive session, a motion by John Bonner to deny the Level III grievance "died for lack of a second." The board returned to closed session a second time and, upon returning to open meeting, took formal votes.
When the denial motion was put to a vote later, it failed 4-3: John Bonner, Ron Fowler and Dr. Bill Lowry voted in favor of denying the grievance; Jackie Craig, Melvalynn Jones, Cedrick Gamble and Bud Shamblin opposed denying it. The subsequent motion to approve the Level III grievance, made by Jackie Craig and seconded by Bud Shamblin, passed 4-3 with Craig, Jones, Gamble and Shamblin voting in favor and Bonner, Fowler and Lowry opposed.
The approved action includes a stipulation that the employee may perform only plumber duties; the board record does not specify the employee's name or further personnel details. The meeting minutes show that no public comments were offered during the open-forum portion of the hearing.
The board adjourned at 7:43 p.m. after a unanimous 7-0 vote to end the meeting.
