Town board authorizes bids for townwide waste contract; hazardous waste could be an alternate

The Town Board authorized a call for bids to replace expiring waste-hauling contracts and accepted alternates that could include hazardous-waste pickup and electronics collection. "Tom Ward to authorize the advertisement for the bid for the collection hauling and disposal of mixed municipal solid waste, bulky waste, and white goods in collection," the item read when presented (S2).
Board members discussed service models and whether hazardous-waste and electronics collection should be included as an alternate. Staff said some villages contract direct door service through providers (residents call and set up pickups) and cautioned that accepting electronics in-town could make the town subject to DEC transfer-station regulations and require certified carriers for removal. The board directed the clerk and staff to include alternates in the bid package; the advertised bid-opening date in the draft was Aug. 27 with publication and alternate language to follow.
Separately, the board authorized advertising for a separate townwide brush/vegetative waste contract (bids to be opened in person at the municipal center on Aug. 22) and directed the clerk to publish notices. Several members said they would review alternates (e.g., bulky pickup frequency) before final advertisement.
