Town Manager Greg Lunsford told the council the town has been successful securing external funding over the past 12 months: $309,000 for the police department, $200,000 for economic development, more than $100,000 in smaller grants and donations for the Downtown Marketplace, and a $10,000 grant through the Central Shenandoah Planning Commission for trees.
Lunsford also noted that the Bur Tree in the front yard — described in the meeting as the oldest and largest in the State of Virginia — will be included in the Virginia Department of Forestry's 2026 calendar. Council received the report; no town appropriation action was taken at this meeting.
