Valley Open Doors outlines expanded shelter, invites Elkton to tour new Navigation Center

Nate Riddle, executive director of Valley Open Doors, told the Elkton Town Council on Aug. 4 that the organization has expanded shelter capacity and resource services in the region. "The shelter was low barrier, which meant it was open to anyone that was homeless and eighteen years of age or older, regardless of past circumstances," Riddle said, and he described a new Navigation Center on N. Main Street in Harrisonburg that will operate year‑round and double the organization's capacity.
Riddle said the Drop‑in Center offers resource navigation for social services, health and mental‑health referrals, showers, Wi‑Fi, computers and laundry facilities, and that Valley Open Doors is open to coordinating with the Elkton community. He invited Elkton residents and officials to an open house on Sept. 19, 2025 to tour the Navigation Center and learn about partnership opportunities.
