Olney amends 2025–26 Street Department budget as Main Walnut storm-sewer costs come in under estimate

City staff told the Olney City Council that most bills for the Main Walnut storm-sewer project are in and that the total spending should come in around $3,925,000, lower than an earlier estimate of $4,839,000. “The total spending should come in around 3,925,000,” the department representative reported.
Staff also said the project will not require $1,000,000 previously budgeted from the business-district fund, so that amount can be redirected to help pay for Main Street resurfacing next year. Council members asked for confirmation of the fund reallocation and thanked staff for the work on the project. A motion to amend the 2025–26 Street Department budget to reflect the current cost estimates passed by voice vote.
Councilors characterized the change as a budget-management action that frees district funds for other local infrastructure needs. The amendment does not increase overall city spending for the project beyond the revised estimate; staff indicated the work is being spread over more than one year and that resurfacing Main Street will remain a future priority.
