Council schedules 2027 budget hearing and 2026 budget-amendment hearing for Sept. 14, 2026

Bonner Springs City Council approved notice of a public hearing to adopt the 2027 budget and set the hearing for Monday, Sept. 14, 2026; the council also scheduled a second hearing that night for proposed 2026 budget amendments. Finance Director Tilly LaPlante summarized the items and said the proposed mill levy remains the same and noted amendments are needed for six funds, including RID/TIF pass-throughs and a higher-than-expected KDHE loan payment in the water fund. "These are all, items and the expenses and taxes that we've talked about in our budget work sessions," LaPlante told the council.
LaPlante said two of the additional funds have no current expenditures and that the Sandstone Townhomes RID increment and the Bonner Point TIF increment are budgeted to pass through to developers. She also said unspent street-project funds would be used for sidewalks and that the wastewater and equipment storage facility costs require amendment. Council approved scheduling both hearings for Sept. 14 and a revenue-neutral-rate hearing was also noted for Sept. 8.
