Bonner Springs City Council voted to adopt the Bonner Springs connectivity and walkability plan as an amendment to the city's comprehensive plan after staff summarized the project and community input. Mark Lee, community development director, said the plan evaluated sidewalks, trails, bicycle networks and possible transit enhancements and "identified missing sidewalks, disconnected trails, and gaps in the bicycle facilities as the community's highest priority."
Council members asked detailed questions about safety along major corridors and the feasibility of separated pedestrian facilities on Front Street and Highway 32; staff discussed possible road-diet options, widening sidewalks, and the need to pursue grants and departmental budget alignment for construction. The ordinance to incorporate the connectivity and walkability plan passed on roll call.
