Veterans Service Office reports 2,317 contacts in 2024, requests per-diem rule change

Mary Vetter, speaking for the Veterans Service Office, told commissioners that "In 2024, the Veterans Service Office had 2,317 communications logged in digital state solutions." She clarified that figure covers office work, home visits and claims work but does not include outreach events or volunteer transportation, which she said amounted to more than 100 trips last year.
Vetter described staffing and workload challenges and requested a change to the county's per-diem policy, saying the current language can create an "unintentional financial burden on employees" under certain circumstances. The Board did not act immediately and requested that any proposed revisions be tabled to the next meeting so staff can craft precise language.
Vetter also listed other VSO activities, including research on historical gravesites ("over 50 last year") and participation in local organizations and training.
