Highway superintendent reports load restrictions, blading and accepts gravel and culvert bids

Highway personnel Jesse Sedler told the Board that "Load restrictions went into effect at 6:00 A.M Monday, March 3rd" and that crews were blading roads and would continue as weather permitted. Sedler also said flashing beacons were placed on both sides of Hull Road and that signs would warn drivers that cross traffic does not stop.
At a public bid opening the Board reviewed multiple gravel-crushing bids and accepted all submissions on a motion by Commissioner Berseth; bids ranged from Rogge Excavating at $1.90 per ton to Knife River Materials at $6.25 per ton. Sedler and commissioners discussed a possible 3% cap and how it might affect future projects.
The Board also opened bids for 24-inch culvert pipe, receiving $30.40/ft from True North Steel and $32.30/ft from Contech Engineered Solutions; the Board accepted the culvert bids (motion by Berseth, seconded by Miller). Sedler asked that the Highway Department pilot placement of small box culverts in 2026, citing that Cass County placed five in 2024.

Commissioners recorded unanimous approval on the bid-acceptance motions and asked staff to evaluate contract-cap options before future procurements.
