Oconto County IT examines alternatives after VMware renewal hits $31,506.30

Technology Services Director Melissa Schwaller told the Property & Technology Committee on April 15 that the county’s VMware renewal has grown substantially year over year.
Schwaller said, "VMware renewal costs continue to jump yearly; this year was $31,506.30." She said her team is working with Heartland Business Systems and MNJ Technologies to evaluate alternative solutions and is conducting demonstrations of other platforms.
The committee did not vote on a replacement product at the meeting. Schwaller described the reviews and demonstrations as a step toward identifying a cost‑effective long‑term solution and said staff would report back with findings and recommended procurement steps if a change is recommended.
