The Fitchburg Common Council approved Resolution R15926 to accept the low bidder, Homer, for $65,000 to clear brush and trees ahead of utility work on Fitzrona Road. Council members were told the engineer’s estimate was $70,000 and a 10% contingency was added, bringing the resolution’s authorization to about $72,000.
Public works staff said the clearing will allow necessary utility (electric and fiber) work to proceed and that no traffic control is required. “The low bidder was Homer, for $65,000, which was just under the engineer’s estimate of 70,000,” the member presenting the item said, noting the CIP includes funding and that work would be finished before Aug. 31 to avoid impacts to school bus routes. The council carried the motion by voice vote.
