Board approves Greenfield Library meal pilot expansion and snack pilot plan

County staff presented a preliminary report and pilot plan for the Greenfield Branch Library’s meal program and requested permission to proceed with a fall snack pilot funded by the Monterey County Free Libraries Foundation.
A staff speaker corrected the record on service weeks and said the Greenfield library serves meals during summer across 12 weeks; the presenter said the library had served more than 19,000 meals to children so far this summer. The presenter reported the food bank is prepared to help with snack logistics and funding pending an agreement and recommended proceeding with the foundation-funded pilot this fall and returning with a February report.
Supervisor Lopez moved to proceed with the pilot and the motion passed unanimously with no public opposition on the item. Staff will return in February with the pilot’s results and further recommendations.
