County staff moves second reading of zoning ordinance revisions to Sept. 8

Upson County planning staff announced on Aug. 10 that the second reading of the county’s zoning ordinance revisions has been moved to the Sept. 8 meeting, with the effective date to be set after that hearing.
Jeremy, the county staff presenter, told commissioners: "That's why we've moved the 2nd reading of the zoning ordinances and all to the September 8 meeting." He said the Board of Commissioners will set an effective date at a later point. Staff also summarized a substantive change the Board adopted during workshop discussions: the draft removes the category of "minor subdivisions," so subdivisions creating more than five lots would be treated with internal-street requirements under the new rules. Jeremy said commissioners’ earlier recommendations were largely retained in the current draft, with a few minor changes the Board requested.
Staff said the ordinance rewrite is intended to be on the books before year-end; commissioners thanked staff for their work compiling the package. The planning commission’s role at this stage is advisory and it forwarded the kennel special-exception matter separately to the Board for final action.
