Council considered and approved Resolution 2025-03 to cancel the 2025 General City Officer’s Election for District B because only one qualified candidate (Max Ledesma) filed for that district. Under Texas Election Code §2.051, where a candidate is unopposed and no at-large positions are on the ballot, a municipality may cancel that contest and declare the candidate elected.
Bill Powell moved to approve Resolution 2025-03, seconded by Michael Stueart; the motion carried unanimously. The transcript records that Mr. Ledesma will be sworn in at the second council meeting in May. The council noted this cancellation does not affect the May 3 Special Charter Amendment Election.
