Council certifies May 2 election results and moves to swear in officials

The City of Bertram City Council on May 2026 approved Resolution No. 611-051226 to canvass the May 2 election results and scheduled oath-taking for newly elected officials.
At the special meeting called by the chair, the council read results for two full-term alderman positions and an unexpired one-year term. The chair read the totals: the top candidate for a full-term alderman received 69 votes (31.65%), another candidate received 52 votes (23.85%), and for the unexpired one-year term Betty Predmore received 60 votes (48%). The chair also announced the mayoral total as 122 votes. “Resolution canvassing the votes of the May 2nd 2026 election,” the chair said when presenting the item.
Council member Randall Fisher moved to approve the canvass; Council member Anthony seconded. The chair called for the vote and said, “So moved,” and the motion carried. The council then planned to administer oaths of office to the newly elected and reelected mayor and aldermen; the chair noted Alderman-elect Betty Predmore was not present because a family member was hospitalized.
Following the canvass, the council addressed filling the vacancy created when a sworn-in seat left an unexpired term. The council moved and approved appointing Tracy Wilson to the council to fill that vacancy. The chair instructed staff to prepare the swearing-in paperwork and the council completed the appointment by voice/hand vote.
The council concluded the procedural items before moving to reports and other agenda business.
