The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners recessed into an emergency executive session Nov. 12 to consult with counsel about litigation tied to a recent Land Use Board of Appeals decision. The board cited ORS 192.660(2)(h) as the statutory authority for meeting in executive session with less than 24 hours' notice because an appeal deadline created an emergency.
"This board will now go in executive session regarding the legal rights and duties of this board with regard to current litigation under ORS 1 9 2 dot 6 6 0 2 h," the chair said, adding that representatives of the news media and designated staff would be allowed to attend but that no deliberations could be reported beyond the statutory citation and purpose. The chair also noted that no decision may be made in executive session and that the board would return to open session afterward.
