Council tasks Predmore to build emergency-response network after nearby wildfire evacuation call

After the council received a call from the county judge about a wildfire that prompted evacuations near Bertram, the mayor and council considered the city's capacity to host evacuees and agreed the city lacked an owned facility for large-scale sheltering. The mayor said the Bertram Community Center graciously hosted evacuees for the immediate incident and assigned Council member Betty Predmore to form an emergency-response network (including law enforcement, fire departments, churches and other organizations) and report back within a few weeks with a proposed coordinated plan.
The mayor described quickly mobilizing the community center and arranging refreshments and shelter during the event and said the exercise showed the need for a formal network to improve response times and resource coordination in future natural-disaster or evacuation scenarios. Predmore accepted the task and will present a proposal to council once partner organizations have had time to consult their boards.
