Board backs proposal to reconfigure fair office and OSU building; rough cost estimate ~$22,000

Staff presented conceptual plans to reconfigure the existing fair office and the adjacent OSU building into additional workstations, a meeting area and storage. The plan includes building an interior wall to create an office for Bart, relocating the copy machine and cupboards, redoing flooring, installing cabinets for archival material, adding temporary fence panels and motion‑activated cameras, and improving gravel/parking for relocated grounds vehicles.
Staff estimated the combined project costs at roughly $22,000 for the office wall, new flooring and gravel; smaller items (a door and concrete for the old outdoor bathroom retrofit) were estimated at up to $2,000. The grounds lead said the outdoor bathroom/storage conversion would be mostly labor and materials and likely lower cost.
A board member moved that the board support "Tony and his efforts to make the improvements on the Fairgrounds office" and to recognize that some capital expense might come from the fair budget. The motion was seconded and approved by the board.
Why it matters: The proposal would consolidate grounds and office operations, provide secure storage for archival material, and reduce operational friction by co‑locating staff and equipment. Funding will be considered through the county capital improvement process and the board asked staff to consult BOCC and include items in the upcoming budget amendment.
