Bell Gardens proclaims National Golf Month, honors local golf groups and youth programs

The Bell Gardens City Council proclaimed August 2026 as National Golf Month and recognized several local groups that run clinics, tournaments and youth programs at the Bell Gardens Golf Course.
Councilwoman Dr. Frances Ellen Sanchez read a proclamation highlighting the Bell Gardens Golf Course and invited a representative of the Latina Golfers Association to accept a certificate; the group described 18 years of activity and thousands of members supporting girls’ golf. Ruben Cardiel of Raza Golf described a mission to "create community access and also get more Latinos out on the golf course," saying their call to action is, as he put it, "more brown on the green." The council also recognized Cops and Birdies; founder Miguel Sanchez described youth outreach, fundraising for first‑responder families and an Aug. 27 cops vs. firefighters tournament intended to raise funds and community engagement.
The recognitions were ceremonial and aimed at promoting recreation, youth mentorship and partnership between community groups and city facilities.
