County staff and commissioners said some sheriff’s office positions are grant‑funded or supported by city contracts that may need renegotiation, and that patrol presence on highways is a priority. The county administrative officer recommended the sheriff provide an organizational chart, identify grant and contract expirations and outline patrol and jail staffing needs to support a levy discussion. "We would start having conversations about a jail levy renewal that will be need to be on the ballot in November 26," a county official said during the discussion.
Separately, the board moved to "proceed with the appeal as presented in executive session" and approved that motion by voice vote before adjourning to the evening meeting.
