A police department representative told the Civil Service Commission on June 2 that automated traffic enforcement generated 1,920 citations in May.
"We have 1,920 citations," the agency official said, adding that "about 63% of the people that receive those citations do not live in Poulsbo" and instead travel through the city. The official also noted multiple repeat offenders, including one person who has received eight citations.
Commissioners and staff discussed camera locations and shifting citation rates. The representatives identified Viking and Knoll Road (near the school zone and Fish Park clock) as active sites and said daily citations at some locations have fallen from the high 30s to about 15–18 per day.
A presenter said the program has generated substantial revenue: "it's, the contributions is right around $300,000 so far from the traffic cameras." Staff added the city covers a monthly lease for the system, and that the program has paid the lease and produced contributions to date.
Members also discussed operational limits: the motorcycle traffic-enforcement officer is not yet active because of missing communications brackets and will be assigned to hot-spot enforcement once equipment arrives. The department said the motorcycle officer will focus on recurring complaints, including those on 6th Avenue.
The commission received the update as informational; no new enforcement policy or formal action was taken at the meeting.
