The board approved a $300,000 funding allocation to resurface a segment of 179th Street between Klein Avenue and the Little Calumet River. Staff (speaker 3) said the work is being split three ways among the town of Highland, the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission and Hammond, and explained that the city must pay the full amount up front and then receive offsetting reimbursements from the other entities.
‘‘It’s $300,000 because we’re splitting it 3 ways between the town of Highland, the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission, and the city of Hammond,’’ the staff member said, adding that Mayor McDermott brokered a deal among the parties after the town had threatened to close the road. The staff member said the city used an annual contract to reduce the cost below the town’s earlier estimate.
Committee member (speaker 2) recommended approval and the Chair concurred. The board recorded the allocation and set administrative steps for payment and reimbursement processing.
