Commissioners accept termination of Forest Grove Solar abatement after Vistra withdrawal

Henderson County's Commissioners Court accepted notification from Vistra that it was withdrawing from the Forest Grove Solar tax‑abatement agreement for a site between Athens and Eustace.
County Attorney Strahan told the court the project never reached development, no abatements were issued and there were no clawback obligations tied to the agreement. The judge said the county will notify Vistra, the tax office and the comptroller to remove the agreement from county records. Commissioner McCam moved to accept the termination notice; Commissioner Richardson seconded the motion and the court approved it unanimously.
Commissioners discussed whether the withdrawal could presage a different project location, but county counsel said he was not aware of any related plans. The court noted there are currently no active county tax abatements and that county guidelines for granting abatements are not in place.
