County approves interlocal agreement to help fund Trinity Valley groundwater litigation

The Henderson County Commissioners Court unanimously approved an interlocal cooperation agreement to help cover ongoing and anticipated litigation costs for the Natchez/Trinity Valley Groundwater Conservation District.
Danny Crossley, who said he lives north of Chandler and serves on the groundwater‑district board but was “speaking on my own behalf,” urged the court to support regional efforts to defend local water resources. Crossley told the court, “our water is under threat to be taken, in my opinion,” and asked residents to contact officials to help protect the aquifer. County Attorney Strahan described the agreement as a mechanism to fund experts and legal fees; the judge recorded that the county’s initial financial responsibility under the agreement is $25,000 to be issued by Aug. 31 and an additional $100,000 by Jan. 15, 2027. The court approved the agreement with the judge’s authorization to sign.
Court members remarked this is likely to be a long legal and legislative fight and that further funding requests may follow; Anderson County had already signed the agreement.
