Santa Fe County commissioners voted Aug. 11 to forward Yolanda Jaramillo's name to the governor to fill the vacant New Mexico House District 41 seat. Hutchie Miller, the county's intergovernmental outreach coordinator, told the board that Jaramillo had won the primary and would be the only name on the general election ballot, and staff therefore recommended that Santa Fe County submit her name to the governor under the statutory appointment process.
Jaramillo, who introduced herself as "Pancha" and described ties to Dixon and long experience on acequia commissions and in education, thanked the board and community. "I am Yolanda Jaramillo known as Pancha," she said, and outlined priorities including watershed recovery, behavioral health, early childhood education and workforce development. Commissioners praised her background and endorsements, including former Representative Susan Herrera, and the board approved a motion to forward Jaramillo's name to the governor by voice vote.
Why it matters: forwarding a nominee allows the governor to appoint a representative to fill the vacancy ahead of the next regular swearing‑in, reducing the time the district is unrepresented. Staff cited the applicable statutory process during the presentation and noted the county must submit a single name for its portion of House District 41.
