Commission defers conditional-use decision on Weston Avenue storage proposal until village board rules on rezoning

The commission moved on Aug. 10 to defer action on the conditional use permit (CUP) for a proposed personal storage facility at 4205 and 4307 Weston Avenue until the village board rules on the related rezoning request.
Staff told the commission it could receive testimony on the CUP but should not take final action while the zoning classification remains inconsistent with the comprehensive plan. "Because the property is not currently zoned to allow consideration of a personal storage facility, staff is recommending that the planning commission receive testimony on the conditional use permit, but defer action until after the village board has acted on the rezoning request," Jennifer said. The commission approved a motion to defer; the vote was by voice and the motion carried.
By deferring, the commission preserved the record of public testimony and left detailed technical review of site design, landscaping, lighting, stormwater and access to staff and future review if the village board approves rezoning.
