Dr. Allen Siebert gave the board a first reading of a batch of policy updates from the Virginia School Boards Association subscription service.
"We use, as mentioned last month, Virginia School Board Association policy subscription service," Siebert said, explaining that a new VSBA attorney produced additional changes. He highlighted significant rewrites to the procurement policy (DJF) and to student education records, noting the FOIA Council’s guidance that FOIA timelines apply in Virginia in certain student-record contexts.
Siebert said the division inserted local language into templates where appropriate and that several regulations supporting the new student-records policy (including transfer and special-education regulations) are still being drafted and will be presented at a future meeting. He asked board members to submit questions to the clerk and him by Aug. 19 to enable consideration for adoption on the Aug. 22 consent agenda.
Board members thanked Siebert and staff for the work and encouraged continued cross-departmental review with HR and payroll to finalize implementing regulations before adoption. No vote was taken; this was a first reading and information item.
