Residents ask council for cricket pitch; youth speaker urges safe play space

During the public-comment portion of the regular meeting, resident Lee Godfrey asked the council to consider building a cricket pitch to give children and adults a safe, appropriate place to play. "I'm Lee Godfrey... I am here tonight to ask the council to consider building a cricket pitch," he told council members.
Eleven-year-old resident Viraj Pawa told the council that he and his friends currently play on uneven ground near Timnath Parkway and that stray balls sometimes go into traffic. "I would like the time of 10 minutes to build us a proper cricket ground for all the kids and adults to enjoy," Viraj said, explaining that a pitch would provide safety and encourage outdoor activity. Council members thanked both speakers and said staff would note recreation interests as part of parks and open-space planning and the broader strategic-plan and budget discussions.
