The Log Cabin Volunteer Fire Department asked the council to reconsider a recent reduction in MOU funding, citing increased call volume, new crew members and equipment needs. Angie Kemp, LCVFD secretary, outlined needs including radios, a medical kit/AED, and gear and training for new personnel.
Mayor Jennifer Williams said she values the fire department but must balance the city's budget and responded to community questions about the level of support, noting she has been questioned "if she really cared." Councilmembers discussed restoring prior funding levels and the city's current budget constraints. The approved allocation for the fiscal year was $2,000; Kemp said the department requested $16,200 per year.
Aaron Scott moved to increase the MOU funding to $5,000 for the fiscal year; Bill Sims seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Councilmembers also suggested a January budget workshop to examine longer-term funding options.
