Pearson Elementary students pitch park pollinator corridor and community fundraiser

Students and their principal presented the Poulsbo Pollinator Project, a student-led effort supported by the school’s Anchored for Life and a Navy partnership. Principal Craig Frick introduced student leaders who described installing a pollinator corridor at American Legion Park last year and plans to expand the initiative to Waterfront Park and Centennial Park. The students said the corridor includes native plants and mason-bee houses and that they sourced supplies from Crown Bees and Salish Tree.

Student presenters urged residents to plant native species that bloom at different times to support pollinators and said the group will fund future plantings by selling student-designed stickers to area businesses. The council praised the effort and offered suggestions for fundraising venues; Councilmember McVeigh suggested the farmers market as a pop-up location. “We put them in the refrigerator… they were starting to wake up as I was putting them the bee houses,” one presenter said, describing how the bees were reintroduced to the corridor. The police department presented department coins to the students in appreciation.
