Levelland amends RV park rules to limit free stays to once every 45 days

The Levelland City Council on May 5 adopted Ordinance 1094, updating rules for the city RV Park and changing the free-stay interval to one free stay per 45 days. Parks Director Dustin Reichelt asked Council to lengthen the interval from 30 to 45 days to ensure space availability for other travelers; Council approved the amendment on second reading by unanimous vote.
The ordinance (Article 12.211) codifies several operational rules: RV spaces remain first-come only and are free for up to three days; only one free stay is permitted per 45 days without a permit; water and electric hookups are provided free; a free sewage dump station is available but campers may not park at the dump station or directly hook up to it. The ordinance also bans tent camping, open campfires, EV charging in the park, and certain exterior structures or equipment (for example, dog runs, fencing, freezers). Officials said the changes align park use with traveler needs and public-health concerns.
"Parks Director Dustin Reichelt asked Council for one change to the ordinance before approving and reading: (4) Only one free stay per 30 days is permitted... Reichelt wanted a longer time from between camping stays, suggesting 45 days," the city minutes record. Jaime McCabe moved to approve Ordinance 1094 as amended and Michael Stueart seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Councilors and staff said permits for additional days (beyond three) may be obtained at City Hall with a $25 per-day pre-paid fee, and staff noted the ordinance includes a 10-day maximum if a permit is approved.
