Upson County commissioners voted to rezone about 1.98 acres at 2474 Highway 19 North from commercial (C-2) back to residential (R-2) so the owner can market and sell the existing house as a residence.
County planning staff explained the property had been rezoned to C-2 in 2008 with conditions (no pawn shop, no used car lot, no alcohol package sales and a 20-foot planted buffer), but the parcel currently contains a house and the applicant sought to revert the zoning to reflect that use. "This is another similar request to the last one. This applicant is requesting to rezone their property from C-2 to R-2... The property currently has a house on it, and the applicant is wanting to sell the property as a residence," the staff member said.
The planning commission recommended approval with no conditions; no residents signed up against the request. A commissioner moved to approve the rezoning, the motion was seconded, and the board carried the motion by voice vote. The county staff said the request meets the ordinance criteria and is consistent with surrounding land uses.
The change will allow the owner to market the parcel for residential use without the commercial restrictions that were put in place in 2008.
