McCulloch County Sheriff Matt Andrews and Chief Deputy Jason Corbell briefed the Lohn Independent School District board on Senate Bill 33 and demonstrated the breaching tools and ballistic shields the law requires. The board heard the presentation during the July 10 meeting; Sheriff Andrews explained the equipment features and compliance expectations and the chief deputy participated in the demonstration.
Superintendent Kay Shackelford said she will follow up with the sheriff’s office to get purchase prices and options for the district. SB33 was noted in the minutes as going into effect Sept. 1, 2025; trustees discussed the need to evaluate costs and implementation logistics before any purchasing decisions.
The presentation was informational; the board did not take a formal vote during the meeting. The district’s minutes record that Sheriff Andrews and Deputy Corbell exited the meeting after their demonstration and that District leadership will pursue pricing and options.
