Commission approves $3.0M water extension to Enterprise Corner funded by SPLOST

The Rome City Commission voted to approve a water extension to the Enterprise Corner development on Highway 411, awarding the project to low bidder TJL Construction for $3,000,004.69.
John Boyd, the city's Water and Sewer Director, told the commission the work will install about 2.89 miles of 16-inch ductile water main, 18 16-inch valves and 22 fire hydrants. He said the project is funded with SPLOST dollars and will not use water-and-sewer operating funds. "The money's already there," Boyd told the commission.
Boyd said the larger-diameter main and the hydrant layout anticipate significant growth in the area and that the extension will create the need for an additional storage tank in the service area. He noted the city benefited from savings on a prior in-house project (Rosemont Park) that helped offset costs.
The clerk called the roll and the motion passed on roll call. Commissioners asked whether the city had specific commitments from businesses; Boyd said recruitment interest exists and a large residential development is exploring the area, but tenant mix is not yet finalized.
The contract award authorizes procurement under SPLOST funding; the project will move to contracting and construction scheduling.
